Patio, French or
Bi-folding doors.

We have a lot of enquiries at this time of year for Patio, French and Bi-folding doors, with summer fast approaching and the warmer weather inspiring homeowners to spend a little more time in their garden. The great thing about all these products is that allow homeowners brilliant access to the garden as well as plenty of natural light and they look fantastic too.

All these products have their own unique sets of benefits and drawbacks, while some work brilliantly in some homes and spaces they may not work too well in others. We are going to look at all three and discuss their pros and cons as well as examples of where they work really well.

Bi-Folds

Pros

Bi-folding doors are some of the most architecturally stunning home improvement products available today, made to measure in a range of styles, colours and configurations, meaning that bi-folds are an incredibly versatile option.
Bi-folds can be configured to have a single opening leaf as well as the sliding concertina doors to provide access in and out when you don’t necessarily want to open the doors fully.

Cons

Bi-folds are probably the most expensive of the three options mostly because of their complexity and the precision work required to install to our high standards. However, with their growing popularity and increasing availability they are becoming more and more affordable.

Examples

Bi-folds tend to be used on larger properties with sunny south facing garden areas, because of their ability to let plenty of natural light in when they are both open and closed.

French Doors

Pros

Perhaps the most traditional style of ‘garden’ door the French door or double doors have been a staple of homes for centuries, our modern uPVC French Doors boast a range of benefits over its traditional timber counterparts for example our Liniar Eco Energy system that works so well in our windows is also used for our French doors, helping to improve the thermal efficiency of the customer’s home.

Cons

French Doors require more room to open than patio sliders or bi-folds and are more susceptible to being caught by and damaged in the wind.

Examples

French Doors are brilliant for when the width of the aperture isn’t as wide as Bi-Folds. Also They look great on traditional properties, in keeping with their charm.

Patio Doors (Sliding)

Pros

Sliding patio doors offer a clean space saving aesthetic, there is a range of different styles, colours and configurations available. A growing trend amongst homeowners is to opt for sliding patio doors in a slimline profile, meaning more glass and more natural light.

Cons

In direct comparison with Bi-Folds sliding patio doors often require a wider aperture in order to offer a similar opening width.

Examples

Sliding patio doors look great on modern properties with large architectural openings, alternatively they add a great modern twist to more traditional properties.
